Thanks pfren. I've noticed that a lot of the games in the database are missing a lot of info such as ratings, dates, tournaments, but the core essential are there. I looked at chessbase but it's very expensive when this free combination is around. Reading up though, I have found I can actually fill in a lot of the ratings info with a spellchecker for SCID - this could be very useful because of the nearly 5 million games there appear to be quite a few from players rated sub 1800.
SCID and ICOfY Base

The ICOFY base project has been suspended until the end of the year.. the project maintainer has stated in its facebook page that he intends to investigate if it's possible to keep working on it but with higher quality (i.e. no missing game info).
Is there some more information about icofy project.
I can't find anything on the internet.
Is there an alternative for downloading the games?

Despite being smaller than icofy, KingBase is a free database in Scid-format that can be a good alternative.
What does everyone use as their source of games for their chosen database management system? I've started using SCID with ICOfY Base.
Seems pretty comprehensive so far!
