Strange Best Move > Show Moves bug

Hello everyone. I will try to keep it straightforward.

So when I am using the Gama Analysis feature, one typically has many moves that aren't the best move. So it will have the best button. I click it, see the best move.

Naturally you have the 'show moves' feature, which then shows you following moves that are the best after that move.

However, I am having a bug. When I click show moves after seeing a best move, it skips immediately to the end instead of showing me each of the moves. So you have the 'best move' and then it jumps immediately to the last move. The moves in between aren't shown.

It's very annoying, especially when I'm trying to figure out why I blundered something (which happens frequently enough). So I assume it's some kind of strange bug. Any suggestions gentlemen (and ladies)?

Staff have some tickets about that and I was able to verify it's happening as well. They are looking into it

Wow, now that's good that I'm not alone with the bug. Thanks for the update friend.

If you go into the review settings, disable Autoplay Show Moves, exit and then go back and enable, that feature should work correctly for you.

Staff are still looking into it but that may fix it if you're seeing the issue.

Sadly, it's not working in my case.

Yeah this started happening to me also. It's kinda annoying. I tried disabling and enabling but no luck. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Yes, it is REALLY annoying. I want to learn why it is the best move and when it just jumps to the end, you learn NOTHING! This recent upgrade needs to be backed out, there are just so many flaws with it. Using chess.com is become more hassle than it is worth.

chojaehy

Thanks for sharing this. I was wondering the same.

nottoknightdarling

you can click the back arrow to go back through the chain of moves, but I agree its a pain

jdeguire

After it jumps to the end of the best moves, I found clicking on the first best move in the move list easier than clicking back all the way through to the beginning. If I clicked back through I found that I would fly past the best moves and having to start the process over again.

God this bug is so ANNOYING!!!!!! Please chess.com get your act together, this is hopeless and should have been fixed within the hour of being raised.

That's not how code changes happen on a large project. It takes time to determine the root cause, come up with a fix, test and QA the fix, and schedule tie deployment of the update.

For something that's not completely broken, a fix can be implemented quickly. For a more minor issue, there's a process.

My understanding is that a fix is ready but it likely won't happen before tomorrow.

try programming and see how you feel

Hi Martin and Tumo. I am a software developer and have worked on large and small scale projects for over 25 years. So I know for a bug such as this, it should be fixed in a few hours, and a major bug like this, the upgrade should be rolled back. For large scale companies, they would do a software update at least once a day and it is all automated, (facebook and spotify do 3 a day). If a team of developers, (never mind one developer) can't come up with the root cause in an hour or two there is something wrong - they simply would be able to know why it is happening. There is no mystery to software, it is logical and is a case of stepping through the code a line at a time finding the issue, fixing it and then deploying to test for the testers to validate the fix. Something on this scale where users are complaining about the issue would be a major incident and as I say, should get fixed within a few hours of the initial deployment.

Sadly, I join the club of the buggy folk, thank you for reporting the problem.

I'm curious, is anybody else by any chance playing on Safari? Wondering if it might be related.

Cheers!

redquicksilver

I'm playing on Chrome, so it isn't your browser :-(

Subconsciente_del_patatar

Oh, that's out of the way, then.

Thank you a lot!

Ade_001

clearly it wasn't tested properly... and yes it is very annoying

Martin_Stahl

This is fixed now
