the long way around

I used the analysis after a win today. There were a couple of errors that I missed during the game. At the end the computer stated that I missed a quicker checkmate. I view the moves and sure enough the computer had checkmate mate in four moves. Interestingly my next move used a pawn to secure checkmate.

I assumed there was an escape that my opponent missed, but that was not the case. In fact the “quicker checkmate” actually provided the king an escape.

And be assured that my final move was not credited as a brilliant move. It seems like the analysis did not see the checkmate in one. So is the analysis always right? Or does it stumble from time to time?

It shows you the path to checkmate assuming that your opponent plays the best or at least reasonable moves.

Of course, if your opponent walks into it, there may be shorter routes.
