Where are all the people who want to improve their chess?  Every day I see a new post in the openings forum that has a title like "which is best? e4 or d4?"Undecided  Yet this forum remains cold for hours at a time.  Some interesting games go for a long, long time with hardly any comments (namely, mine!Cool).  Is anyone else frustrated?

i think one reason is that we have a slight imbalance at this time - more people who NEED help then can OFFER help. but it only takes a few people to make a difference. i know that phobetor, richardhayden, billwall, and rowrulz have been making some excellent comments on other games (as have you anaxagoras), but we need more. over time we will attract more players who can help in this regard!

It's not always clear that someone wants a position or game analyzed.  I just scanned the topics here and there were only 10 articles or topics that someone asked a question or someone to comment about a game or position out of over 100 entries here.  It would be nice to separate the posts to those who truly want a game analyzed from those that ae just showing their game.  When I get a chance, I do look at games or positions to analyze and have posted my reponse to dozens of games or positions.

Billwall, you're right that a lot of the posts here do not look for analysis.  Many are just trophy games where one player crumbles and the other beats his chest.  Maybe a sticky at the top of the forum would help.  It would say:

What the analysis forum is for

How to ask for help with play

To leave comments on the moves as to what you were thinking, intended, etc.

Maybe a whole tutorial on How To Analyze Your Chess Games, covering topics like thinking through the game yourself before turning to the chess engine, etc.

I used to post very often but I can't now cause my I-net source is limited, very limited

There's not really 'Best First Move', e4, d4, Nf3 are all kind of fine.

What's the point of reviving 14-year-old threads? The original posters are probably dead by now, or have given up chess in favor of soap carving.

I like reviving old forums!

It just crowds out relevant threads, just as spam threads do.

I'm not spamming am I?

What would you call the act of reviving threads that are more than a dozen years old?... especially when your new post doesn't address the topic of the thread?

This is why he is blocked.
