Watch your pawns man!!
Torbay Div 3: Totnes Vs Newton Abbot Knights

I mean this is the third freddie sugden I've seen on these forums.
As far as the game goes, you shouldn't move a piece twice like that in the opening. White should have a very nice game after 3...Nd4. You probably know it's the Blackburne shilling gambit. Not good for league chess, especially if you want to improve. Maybe good for tricking someone in a friendly though.

Well the first mistake I noticed right away is that you played 3... Nd4. What was wrong with that move? First, you sacrificed it for no purpose. Second, there is a rule in chess -- do not move one piece more than once in the opening (maybe with some exceptions). What you should of played instead: develop another piece, such as your second knight. In every opening, try to develop your imporant pieces as fast as possible and set up a tight control in the center of the board with your pawns.
Other than that, I think you played strongly for a cafe game. Watch out for those mistakes... they will haunt you!

grakovsky thanks a lot and i only put the cafe bit up there because that is where Totnes hold their matches...it was'nt a sterotypical 'cafe' match!
and tonydal thank you very much I see what you mean about when winning get rid of his strong pieces but if I had swapped of that bishop on move 25 and then play Qd6 what were the other threats except taking on h2!?
P.S. steven, only the second post!
This game was in my area's league (division 3)...I was representing Newton Abbot Knights/Adults and we were playing Totnes...I was board 4!
It was a great game and at a time I was a piece up but I was just wondering if people could have a look at it and try and identify where I went wrong etc... I would really appreciate it if people could help me with this game! BTW i was black.
