Wanted to clarify - Less than two years ago, I was shown 'this is how the horsey moves'. And now I seem to be able to beat some clearly good players here, sometimes. Yet other times, I make the most blatant, STUPID moves...ever. At what point is chess like a job or something where you're in cruise control mode, and don't have to think about it?

Well, I know it's not wisdom/book openings, because I don't have either of those! Is beating very good players based on just intelligence, or how would it be explained? I have a short attention span, so I do pretty well in chaotic, acute situations. But in long term events, I just get bored and ..oh, look! A squirrel!!
