What is the "forced" stat telling me?

In computer analysis, along with the number of excellent and good moves, inaccuracies, mistakes, blunders, % best move, there is a line called "forced".  Is it the number of moves where I had no choice, or where my opponent had no choice, or what?  Also, why is this a useful statistic?

This is from a Help article:

The computer will tell you if your move was Excellent, Good, an Inaccuracy, Mistake, or a Blunder. Forced moves are moves that were the only legal move available.

Hmm, so I THINK that means it is the number of your moves (like when in check), where you only had one choice.  By why even use this stat?  I see no value in knowing that.

Thanks for looking that up.  I need to go find where those help articles are.  I'm not lazy (I swear! LOL), but I haven't used this site much until recently, even though I signed up in 2008!

If you had a long series of forced moves it could affect your other stats I suppose.  The Help articles are easy enough to find.  Just roll your cursor up to the top line and rest it on Help.  A drop down menu appears and you click on Ask a Question.  Try it....

Well... the stats gauge how good your moves were, and if a move is the only legal move you have then it isn't really good or bad.

If it is the only move, then it should be graded as the best move right?grin.png

Yeah I know.  It was just another one of my stupid jokes.  wink.png

Good one; Colorado Rockies are hill-areas. happy.png

I realized after I posted that all the categories have to add up to the total number of moves in the game.  Excellent, Good, Inaccuracy, mistake, blunder, plus forced = total.  Makes sense now.

I looked at a couple of your games. Seems you could use more time to study the positions. Ever think about playing daily?

I have thought about daily but haven't tried it yet.  Is cheating an issue?

I need to work on my mental discipline.  Even in Rapid, I often move too quickly, and don't use nearly all the time I have.

I can't find on this website where the rules for daily chess are posted.  Where can I read about it?

Using books seems ridiculous.  I can play a computer and see the best move without having to wait all day!

But my question isn't about cheating it is about daily chess in general.  How does it work?  Is it one move per player every 24 hours?  30 moves in 30 days, or 30 moves per player in 60 days?  Or is it  whole game in 24 hours?  Basic stuff like that. I really don't know anything about it.
