Does anyone know why my opponent resigned in the first game?  And also, feedback on either of the games would be greatly appreciated

overwhelming sorrow and pain ... no serious though, no clue. Doesn't like playing without the Q i suppose.

He probably resigned because he's going to lose his knight on d7:

12...Kh8 13. Bxd7, here he's lost a knight. If 13...Bxd7 then 14. Rxd7 and he's lost a piece.

Not really losing the piece the Kt at b8 defends the rook. I think he resign too early - like what you said he never saw the kt at b8 defends his Kt at d7

I never esign, I think he resgined because... no idea, sorry, I think maybe it's because he was leaving chess.com and wanted to give you some rating points? Or because it's a check and king could go on the run, but no idea.

Right, this game is a live chess game, he may have closed the window, either on purpose (he had to leave) or by accident. Did he disconnect? Also, he has no online chess games going on, so he might be just doing live chess or leaving. If it's a genuine resignations, ??? to him
