If youre going to pick through my posts, be sure to include all the relevant parts:

But, one of the unfortunate side effects of modern chess technology (the chess engine) are posts like this.

Your opponent wasn't paying very close attention or he just plain sucked.

lol, computers always say d4

Forkedupagain

That game sucked to.

The computer doesn't say 7. Kg8 is the best move. It says Ke6  is the better option for black. I don't know whether you know, but computers will sacrifice almost everything to delay mate. I've played a number of games with the exact same moves up to 7.Qf3+ (no one is dumb enough to allow a mate in 2 after that). Ke6 is the mainline. The point of the fried liver attack is that it draws black's king out of security into a risky battle zone. I've seen a lot of games like that. What you played wasn't creative, innovative, original. It's an opening line that has existed and been played in thousands of games for a long time. Unfortunately for you, most of the traps that occur in the opening are already existing, already played lines. I hate to discredit you, but until you can play a game of best moves well into the middle and endgame (not 8 moves into the opening), and exploit a never before seen amazing tactic, then you don't really deserve recognition for that game. You have every right to post a game if you are proud of it. But be careful when you say the game you played is perfect, and isn't an already seen mainline. That kind of stuff attracts a lot of criticism on chess forums.

Its the Tee-Ball effect.  Everyone is a winner, no one loses anymore.

I think i should get a trophy jusr for logging in.

I thought it was implied its 100% best move for white only.

wouldn't 100% best for both sides be a long game and possibly  draw?

"So playing standard opening theory counts as brilliant nowadays hm?

I guess people want recognition for everything."

Did I say I was brilliant?

And meanwhile all the winners' trophies are rendered meaningless...

I work with kids, teaching chess and such.  You quickly find out the ones that are serious about the game, and the ones that are in it for the pile of plastic.

Jakker4

It only calculates 'best moves' after the opening. The line that was played has seven moves counted as 'opening'. You played eight, therefore, you made one 'best move'.

JSLigon

I missed this the first time, because after move 3 we get to a standard opening position, but 3 Nf3 looks a bit dubious. No way is that the best move.

JSLigon

I'll backtrack on that just slightly. 3 Nf3 might be as good as anything else in a strict game theoretic sense, because it probably isn't bad enough to give black a forced win (consider the view from a future where chess has been solved). So if the position prior to 3 Nf3 leads to a draw with best play by both sides (almost certainly true), and 3 Nf3 allows white to still grovel for a draw even after black takes the pawn on e4, then I guess white played a flawless masterpiece after all. Congratulations.

Stockfish for me usually says 1. d4 is best.

Of course it would be a draw!

The only advantage is white's +0.2 to +0.3 because they start the game.

GM_chess_player

After Qf3+ here is what the engine wants.

7...Ke6 8.Nc3 Nb4 9.Qe4 c6 10.a3 Nxc2+ 11.Qxc2 Kf7 12.Qb3 Qb6 13.Qxb6 axb6 etc. etc.

Hey FEF, how'd that Capablanca quote go again...?

Replace "books" with "engines"

Chess books should be used as we use glasses: to assist the sight, although some players make use of them as if they thought they conferred sight

Ok...I can keep posting my Opening Principles cheat sheet....I can keep posting spiffy analysis...I can even keep posting this quote...But i CANNOT perform, nor expect  miracles.
