A nice miniature - one of my best ever!

Hey all! Kinda excited about this recent win with white in less than 20 moves! (sounds familiar?)

Actually one of the reasons I was quite pleased with it is that I used a queen pawn opening, which I'm only just now starting to employ and get more comfortable with. As some of you may know, I'm more of a kingpawn guy myself, particularly King's Gambit, if given the chance, though I'm starting to wean myself off of it to expand my reperatoire.

I think my oponent perceived the threats quite well in most cases, but I want to be sure that I did not win due to some oversight, and that it had more to do with the aggressive strategy I employed, so I definitely would welcome (and indeed, am asking for) some analysis please.

In anycase, I've made some rudimentary notes/annotations but I'm sure they do not suffice:

So what do you think? Any comments are welcome as I would like to confirm what I did right this game to better my future battles.
Thanks.

Incidentally, because I know it may come up, this was not a live game but and online one - 3 days/move I believe.

Sweet game. Nice commentary.

Thank you for the nice comments, I did feel good about it as I mentioned.

I am just wondering about 2 things: was I right that black's b6 move was out of place, and 2) similarly, was I right that black's castling was also miss-timed?

Perhaps black just did not follow through with them well enough, but I haven't found his best follow up moves for these unclear lines...

a queen pawn game turned French... that mating sequence was beautiful.

b6 was because of the e6 pawn (which you had pointed out earlier).

Black was only true dead after Qxg2?? which opens lines against the king.

thanks shuttle, yes, he should have been more wary of the g2 bait, though the prospect of forking 2 pieces and winning a pawn is very hard to resist when there is no immediate threat of material loss... I guess that was the whole point though, to look down the road further.

And also, yes, e6 seemed to be the greatest part of the victory since that was the point behind the initial exchanges., to exploit my better pawn structure. I can see that well now, thanks again!

just wondering---what happens if black moves f5 on move 15 after you castled--after you bring your rook over to attack his queen he takes your rook ---you take back and  he captures the knight--dynamic--unequal positions with no immediate win in site as far as i can see in a quick analysis

Quite a nice tactical game, my congrats!

You certainly can't say that Black's 3...e6 was the main reason for your victory - after 4.Bg5 you have entered a classical French mainline which is usually reached via the move order 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5. This line is held to be fully acceptable for Black.

I agree that 9...b6 wasn't all that great - normal would be 9...c5 which has brought Black satisfactory results in the past. Black's irreversible demise started with that horrible 13...Qxg2, which is what I would call a very serious mistake.

That's a really pretty game :)

talk about a poisoned pawn. Nice game. Thanks
