A nice resignation game

Just played a game I thought you guys might want to see. It has a pretty early queen trade, but because of that trade, everything was less "tensiony".

Please leave some suggestions, they are extremely helpful!

'tense' is the word you were looking for.

You should have blocked the mate with Nf6 instead of Na6 so it wouldn't be attacked by the bishop.

Then on move 8 you could have taken the queen.

A fun game to watch. But, I don't understand almost all of the moves. You should have this analysed by the computer.

This is the second time we have played together(one after another) and we used the same opening. So we already knew what was going to happen.

Sounds like a Karpov vs Kasparov match. They used the same opening a lotSmile

Its okay we all began somewhere and for most of us it was where winning material and going for cheap mates were everything. Leaving pieces en prise(french term for hanging piece) thinking about our opoenents threats more than our own no strategical play whatsoever. I would recommend How to reasses you chess by jeremy Silmin. And just work on tactics tactics tactics!!

:( Sorry!

You're a beginner though... just work on them tactics.

Chess is usually a slow-paced game, especially for beginners. Before every move, you should assess the whole board and think for a while about what move is best. Having goals is good, but make sure that en route to that goal, you don't leave yourself vulnerable, or miss an even better opportunity. And always expect good play from your opponent, not bad play. Finally, always consider multiple possible moves before deciding on one, and consider what responses your opponent might play to each one.

If you do those things, you will be a very good chess player.

Do you know how to do the Knight+Bishop mate? You might have had to, depending on how the game continued. I'm not sure if you can stop White from sacking his Knight for the pawn.

MysticStealth

I could have just used my king in the end to just eat the knight if he was able to somehow get the pawn but I doubt it. I mean, I'm trying to learn more and more about the endgame, but seeing my openings aren't too good either I have to either just study them, or play and learn from them.

MysticStealth

Does this bishop knight mate include the king? I(just by imagining in my head) cannot really find a way how to do some kind of mate like that without the use of the king.

Thanks for all of you comments you guys, they motivate me to learn and become a better chess player!

Well, there are plenty of bishop and knight mates, but the elementary mate is a bishop, knight, and king against a lone king. In that case, yes, the king will be as involved in the mate as the bishop and knight, and it is a very difficult mate to master. It probably isn't worth learning at your level, at least in my opinion, as it is extremely rare and fairly difficult.

However, you would reach that endgame if instead of white resigning, the game had continued with something like 43. Nf3 b3 44. Nd2 b2 45. Ke3 Kxf4 46. Kd3 b1(=Q) 47. Nxb1 Nxb1. From here, black has a difficult mate in 24.

But it turns out that with precise play, black can promote without sacrificing the pawn, and has a faster mate with 46. ... Na4! 47. Kd4 Ba2 48. Kd3 Ke5 49. Nf3+ Kd5 50. Nd2 Bc4+ 51. Ke3 Nc3 52. Kf3 Bb3 53. Ke3 Bc2 54. Kf3 Ne4! 55. Nxe4 Bxe4+ 56. Ke3 b1(=Q) 57. Ke2 Qc1 58. Kf2 Qf4+ 59. Ke2 Kd4 60. Ke1 Kd3 61. Kd1 Qf1#

Nalimov for the win!

I disagree. You should learn how to mate with Knight and Bishop as soon as possible. It doesn't turn up as often in games of higher rated players, because the other player resigns before being forced to mate with Knight and Bishop. But in the lower rated games it is more likely to appear as the opponents play on until the end quite often, regardless of material advantage.

You could have done better on some moves.
