A Positional Squeeze

I consider things a mess when there are so many different little things to worry about on the board. If you're not careful in a game like this.. You could get pretty screwed. Let's take a look at StevenHogan vs. Moon_Knight ~ Albin Counter Gambit.

I just thought this was a good game.. So don't take offense. If it's any consolation We played three games In which we both finished 1 1/2. Anyways here's the game!

Very nice game!  Well played...with some innacuracy but overall you played with objectives, and outplayed your opponent!  Nice game!Cool

I think 14 bg4 is the right idea, but maybe wrong square...I would not want to lose my light square bishop that has sooo much potential power.  I like how you recognized the pin to the queen...and tried to open up the files on whites kingside.

Good job.  You outplayed the guy.

This Opening is the Albin Countergambit, and it offers a quite good game if Black knows how to handle it. It also holds a very nice trap. I'm starting to use it as my standard 'defense' against the Queen's gambit.

yup, I concur with the aforementioned statement...knight took tha wrong rook. d8 would of been the more astute piece to take.

Taking one rook or the other made no difference. Well, he actually took the correct one, as he gained a tempo forcing you to retake on h8. Anyways, I think your position was already winning.

I have great respect for reasonabledount, strong player and useful contributor, but this time i disagree. "playable below master" is definitely not a fair judgement. The opening is certainly ok at master and probably IM level and has been played with decent results between top-GM. (mainly as  surprise weapon of course, but not always). Of course it's less good that traditional alternatives, but still playable at relatively high levels. As far as i know the real problem for black is something like

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e5 3. dxe5 d4 4. Nf3 Nc6 5. Nbd2 Nge7 6. Nb3 Nf5

 7. e4 dxe3 8. Qxd8+ Nxd8 9. fxe3

with an unpleasant ending. Maybe holdable but not what B wants when offering a pawn at move 2.
