The bots are overrated. I 600 and beat half of the intermediate bots.

The bots play at roughly the same level as a human with a rapid rating 500 points lower than them.

They probably play at a similar rating to humans at bullet speed.

chess bots are weird because they play really good moves or really trash moves, If we can take advantage of the bad moves we can beat bots that are higher rated than us. I just played a game against emir the 1000 bot and he blundered multiple times, I had so many pawns left so I decided to make 7 knights and checkmate emir with 7 knights.

emir is not higher rated than me but he does not play like a 1000 rated player, I have not seen any 1000 player play like this.

The bots seem quite overrated in my opinion.  Unlike our ratings which rise and fall with our performance, they are stuck at their initial rating, and that seems quite optimistic.  Probably deliberate to make us feel good about ourselves.

And of course most of us play better against bots anyway.  You know if you just hang in there with decent, but conservative play, that eventually they will make an error.  They seem especially rubbish at endgames....

I agree bots are overrated. I heard they are over rated by approx. 500-600 points. IMO more like 700 closer to 800 points inflated. I beat the 1800 rated "Advanced" bot within 25 minutes.  Seems like players at my skill level need to focus on studying the game rather than feeling good by beating an inflated bot. Learn to reduce errors & really study the game. Sure we know how to move the pieces. But ask yourself what do I really know about the game.  In this game I made 2 errors early on & the bots response was a blunder. The plus side to playing bots is that they keep it classy unlike some non paying members.

Every time a question on bots comes up, the replies are flooded with “I’m a rubbish player but beat 1600, 1700, 2000 bot easily” “I’m rated 800 and beat 1800, the bots are a joke” “the bots are sooo overrated”.
So you’ll never get a straight answer as it’s impossible to say if the developers purposefully made rubbish bots to make you feel good about winning (unlikely), or whether these comments are just designed to make other players feel silly about themselves, putting others down and inflating their own ego 🙄

However, as someone commented above, count how many times you beat them. Perhaps a 1100 rated beats a 1600 bot once, and then declares that the bots are easy.

Yeah, Isabel, who apparently is learning endgames with her grandmaster coach, failed to complete a Rook mate.

I'm 900 and I can beat the 1800 bot

The chess bot's ratings aren't very accurate. The chess bots also aren't real players, just computer programs.

AlexiZalman

The Bots are not overrated, people just play them with a huge time advantage.

You'll improve your game more playing Bots than humans because the former are far more consistent - at least on chess.com. The same applies if you use dedicated chess computers.

chess bot elo is def inaccurate, I beat Wally at 900 elo on my main acc and draw against Li.

I am jealous seeing you beat Li. 😀 I have played several games against this Chinese female 2000 rated bot. She is nice to play against. My best result is 2 draws, one of which I posted in this forum today. Maybe next time better.

I have tried to play against 2200 and 2500 rated bots. Uh... they were too strong.

The problem with bots, not just chess.com bots, is that they sometimes ignore your plan. To demonstrate, here is the game I played against Lichess level 4 bot, supposedly a 1700 there. As you can see, it completely ignored my king’s side attack.

Same thing with Catspurrov. I didn’t save the pgn though.

This might not be how higher level bots play. Well, I don’t know.

I wonder if the Bots' playing strengths are dependent on server loading. Clearly if you are playing a Bot you will be using up a lot more server resources than normal human v human play.  Consequently if the server being used reaches a loading threshold of some sort, a simple trick would be to degrade any Bots running to free up resources as this would be less concern to customers.

Old dedicated chess computers used tricks like this to conserve battery life (de-powering the processor on easy levels by as much as 95%) - and in the case of one manufacturer screwed up badly, giving a very false impression of playing strength on hard levels. The remedies are very simple but you had to be wise to the problem.

Try to play against 2200 higher rated bots, without any assistance.

I terminated Li tonight.  I wonder if that means people need to start panicking around here... That's all I care about.blitz

I took back some moves. But just destroyed the bot.

Go back and play all the bots and get 3 stars (don't take back any moves, don't get any "help".  Play for real.  Are you able to beat all the bots as easily?
