Beautiful Sacrifices I - Hoffman vs. Petroff

I thought it might be fun to make an installment of some of the most beautiful sacrifices I've seen. Here is one of my favorites, a game from 1844.

Can you find the incredible move played by Petroff, and the continuation?

Hope this was entertaining!

Very nice J_brodu! Just one hint for the future: whoever is to move, but that side on the bottom. So with the puzzle, you would want black on the bottom. Thanks for posting!

Am I the only one who finds that confusing? I'm used to books etc showing white at the bottom, always.

Yes, however, I find that it's easier to have whoever I'm playing at the bottom. I don't know why, I just like it that way. Maybe it's because all of my games online where I'm black black is on the bottom and I'm so used to that.

!!! I actually found the castle straight away, but don't know if I'd have played it over the board. I guess he figured he could quite easily keep the king penned in the killing zone, but still.
