This is the best game ever? Come on now
BEST GAME EVER! Smith Morra Deferred @1728 vs 1866

MY best game ever. ZERO BLUNDERS against an 1866 and bringing it in in under 20 moves?
that's my whole point in playing... getting the game over asap. perhaps i've played a better 60 move slugfest, but I tend to HATE those games. I'd rather lose in 30 than win in 70 just about. little quiet moves bore me to death.

Nice bishop sac. Apparently black forgot about the en passant rule too LOL. I like how almost every move out of the opening got a ?! by the engine, but if it works then go for it. Finish him quickly, that is my favorite kind of game too.

well there's ALSO the fact that THESE DAYS, I'm having a REALLY hard time againstsicilians along with an infuriating time trying to study the smith morra constantly tripping over move orders to the point I can't even get through my theory once, constantly make the same blunders. I miss the days when all it took was Qe2/Rd1/Rc1 to spank nearly every sicilian I came across to the tune of a +250 or higher rating (against my starter rating) in just smith morra games.
there might be more ?s with deeper stockfish calculation, but I only saw 2 dubious moves where I analyzed the game.
tactics are pretty much ALL I do. gambit haters refuse to accept that as a legit playing style. i like to think of it as, as weak as I am positionally, my tactics compensate to the tune of a 1700+ rating. (after DECADES of play and/or retirement)
that's why i live for gambits. they let me try to put my opponent away BEFORE we can get to that THEORETICAL game where my opponent wins with his extra pawn.

I call it a can opener attack
I DESPISE pawns more than any piece! sacking a minor piece to get rid of a couple pawns in my way is a huge part of my style. I lose WINNING games often chasing effing kings around pawns. I value mobility and initiative more than material any day. I traded a rook for a bishop (DUBIOUS!?) for an e or f file can opener recently I eventually won in. I got that pawn out of my way!

Beautiful game.
That is exactly how I like to play; launch a blistering tactical attack that overwhelms people even if it is not "sound".
It seems to work at my level well since 90%+ of players seem to play a "safety first" solid, positional style where I try to make it a tactical Shoot Out.
"can opener attack"
I like that I use that tactic all the time when I can.
I was REALLY angry at the gambit deferral at the start of this game as positional battles and I are bitter enemies. I said something to my opponent about running from gambits and maybe how much it annoys me.
I think no longer letting lower rated cheats sandbag me is helping me learn to play against REAL humans better. I find higher rated players EASIER to play against often because they don't throw a bunch of irrational moves at me and trip me up positionally. that, and they aren't used to loud gambit upstarts like me attacking whatever asap.
I'm soooo proud that I only made two inaccurate moves. maybe trying to book up IS helping even if move orders are making my accuracy level there terrible
the knight mate in a miniature against a +140 in an opening that has been really challenging since I started playing again last year makes this game as special as beating chessmaster tal (~2200-2400?) when I was a lowly 1400, or beating a 2200 on logout once he realized he couln't queen faster than me or stop me from queening after I countered his ripping my 0-0-0 a new one and simplifying until I could x-ray his rook as soon as I found a square his queen couldn't check me on.
it really feels like i'm starting to get some positional concepts intuitively, namely claiming space (not just swarming pieces looking for targets to chomp on) and maintaining long term pressure which makes for supertactics when the time is right.
i used to ignore such strategies as too speculative as one opponents have a way of doing stuff that ruins plans. I think my booking up on multiple openings is also giving me insight into new tactical motifs and how moves that look pointless can set stuff beyond straightforward tactics.
hope anyone checking this thread out enjoys the game
