Funny Behavior by Computer...

Howdy Chess Friends,

Thought you may get a kick out of this...

So apparently I stumped the computer with 15.d3

The computer has over 4 minutes of its time left.

Sit and wait. Tick, tock.

I keep thinking, "Maybe it's a bug or a glitch? What could the computer possibly be analyzing? Is it going several ply deep in calculation? Is my connection faulty?"

Finally, the time runs out and the message that says I won on time appears.

What also appears is the standard, "Good game!" by the computer apparently being a good sport. Tongue Out

But the funny part is, you may think, is the other message appears and says, "Computer-2-Medium may have violated our fair policy and may have their account restricted..."

This just goes to show anything's possible when you mix chess, sportsmanship and computers.

I played against computer medium and it really isn't that great.  My Fritz 12 on 1400 mode at 25 minutes per side* is comparable to computer medium in playing strength.  Still, that is funny that their own program violated fair play use.

*My favorite time control, enough time to make reasonable moves and strategic thinking still being a factor while it's not so much time your fast thinking advantage is mitigated.  Though endgame play on both sides is typically a joke as it's a time control where the middlegame shines.

I see what you mean about the time control being "just right" for blitz. It's probably my favorite blitz time control too.

I hadn't really thought much about how the middlegame shines more, but I see how it definitely does now that you mention it.

I'm glad you saw the irony in the computer using its system to flag itself for possibly violating the fair play system run by a computer.

Kind of like someone making a citizen's arrest on a peace officer or maybe an internal affairs investigation or something lol.
