It was a three-minute game. Maybe the opponent resigned because the baby woke up and needed attention, or because his/her partner got home and wanted to do something together. Don't underestimate the effects of real life.
How would he know in advance how long it would take you to reply to a draw offer? The baby might have required immediate attention, and resigning takes far less time than offering a draw and then waiting for a reply.
Just letting the clock run down contravenes the site's Fair Play Policy.
