Sad face :(.

As for the scotch the line you played usually, continues 9. 0-0, Bc5 (although Be7 isn't that uncommon).  Then on move 10 you have the choice of the f3 push or Be3.   Incidentally, you guys actually drifted off the "main" mainline on move 5, where white usually castles instead of playing e5.   Just thought you might wanna know :).

Nice game though.   Pity about the terrible ending.

After 37. f7 in your alternate line, Wouldn't Black have some form of perpetual check after 37...Qb6?

@Travisjw: i always thought the e5 push was best? how does 0-0 regain the pawn?

@dc1985: im not sure... maybe. maybe Qd7+ is better to keep the pressure on?

Nawh.   38. Kh2, Rh4+  39. Kg3, Rg4+  40 Kh3.   Black's out of checks (well... he's out of checks that don't drop his rook or queen, and still fail to create a perpetual)

5... Nxc4
6 Re1, d5
7 Bxd5, Qxd5
8 Nc3, (queen moves somewhere, generally a5)
9 Nxe4

That's as far as I know that line.   I'm honestly not a big fan of it from the white side, but that's at least partially because I tend to overvalue having a bishop pair in an open position.   Plus you're still a pawn down and the development edge isn't really significant enough to be worth it IMO.

ah right the line seems to make sense and i never seem to come out of the e5 push best...thanks :)

thanks for the advice padman, i totally missed Nxf7 and i didnt even consided queenside castling because i thought he could put the queen on the file and just pressure the king
