Sure, it was fine when you played it because it prevented castling, but e6 as a long term home is dubious. It might stay a little baby bishop
Pieces come off the back rank = being born
Pieces get on long empty files or diagonal = kid about to go on a journey
Pieces using those files/diagonals to come into contact with weak pawns or squares around the enemy king (more than one piece to threaten a king of course) = grown up
That's what I mean by pieces having value. Some knights are better than other knights. Some bishops are better than other bishops, that sort of thing.
On e6 it's deep in enemy territory, but it's hitting a lot of empty squares... so black can hope to ignore it and have nothing bad happen to him.
Same thing in 2nd game 19.Be6, your comment is "my bishop is a monster"
When my first impression is "that's a lame move / lame bishop"
Ok, obviously it's a good bishop and white is winning, but why was my first reaction that it's lame? Because look at what it's "touching" ... a whole lot of empty diagonals. Booo
It prevents black from castling. I didn't want to leave my bishop on g4 or place it on h3 since if black castles he has a pretty fine game with f file pressure and if i castle queenside, he can just open the b file. All in all though it's a pretty annoying piece as well, since black can't really get it out.
Ok, it also touches squares near the king, so that's good... you can make it a good bishop by brining another piece near squares like d7 and f7... which is how you find a move like 22.f4, which is just completely crushing.
Notice the engine agrees with me about how lame the e6 square is, and thinks 22.Bg4 is also pretty good move (moving the bishop after black lost castling rights)
You give 22.Qxb7 a ? which is exactly correct. If you think in terms of what gives pieces value then I think you'll do better... which might sound weird since you're high rated and experienced... but in some sense you're inexperienced right? You're young and not playing as well OTB as you are online... makes me think you're missing something, so I'm trying to help a bit.
I did consider 22.f4. For some reason I didn't play it, I probably thought i don't get anything from it, like exf4 Rdf1 Raf8 or something like that.
I don't know about the engine agreeing about Be6 being lame, though, since for me it seemed to be a fine move. You probably used a different engine, I guess.
"In terms of what gives pieces value" - what do you mean by this? Do you mean why each piece is given a certain point value?
