Dont know who he is.

One year later in 2020,

I am 2300 in bullet,

He is 2700. Wow.

llamonade2

I don't play there often so I don't know if I could do better, but I'm ~2250 in blitz and bullet there, and my impression was 2300 would be hard to crack.

So your chess.com ratings are probably a little low.

Why didn't white play 21. Bxc5?

Not only does it triple black's pawns, but it makes black's dark bishop pretty bad, even his good bishop is not too helpful after that.  I can't see opening up 2 files, after exchanges, (instead of one as played) being a bad thing.

21. Bxc5 wasn't played, but I was curious about that move instead of what was played.

i wouldnt take though (it's my opinion) because it opens up pretty much the whole d- file for the rook, but your thinking was something i would never see

never mind thats the move he used to take pawn

I've been surprised with how many untitled players seem to have very high online chess ratings. I assumed someone with a 2500 bullet rating on any site would at least be a National Master in real life.

Yes, average 2500 bullet on some sites is 2300 FIDE.

Meh, sort of.

You can pump up your speed rating way above your OTB peers. Meaning an 1800 player may be able to outclass FMs in bullet... but only in bullet. They're what I call a bullet (or blitz) specialist. If someone plays 100s of blitz/bullet games every month they may be one of these specialists.

Some people play both... lots of OTB and serious study AND lots of speed games.

A person can definitely be good at both... but don't be fooled. A 2500 lichess bullet rating doesn't mean someone is as good as an FM in "real" chess.

Statistics tell the truth ( assuming we have enough sample).

Most (2300) FM players have bullet rating around 2200 to 2800 , that is why their average bullet is 2500.

The difference is that you can get 2500 bullet by sitting on your basement and play in your leisure hours. But to get 2300 FM, you need to pay tournment fees, spend time for several weeks/months for FIDE rated tournments , accommodation fees etc. happy.png

It's not only a difference in money, it's a difference in knowledge too. Practical play boots speed ratings more than technical knowledge. FMs have (a relatively large amount) of technical knowledge.

As for speed play, most sub 2000 FIDE players don't realize practical play is important OTB, it is, but technical knowledge players a greater role at slower time controls.

If you only play speed chess your technique will be deficient.

llamonade2

And even though I say FMs have a lot of technical knowledge, they're practically idiots compared to the best players.

I like to say that super GMs are like living libraries of chess. They carry more knowledge in their heads than players can fathom. Hell, you'd probably have to be rated at least 2600 to properly appreciate them.
