I drew against COMPUTER 3 - HARD in blitz!!

Ok... so this might not exactly be an accomplishment for a lot of people, but look at my blitz rating! Also, as far as I can remember this is the first game I've ever played where I succeeded in trying to play defensively. Like most patzers, pretty much all of my games are aggressive, open games, so I'm really excited that I could play for a draw and succeed.

good for you! i have several wins against Computer HARD but still i think that is impressive.

you played a crazy opening...and sometimes the computer will repeat when humans would not but that is mostly because a lot of people dislike draws, at least at the lower level.

lol... yeah I know. A couple of weeks ago it just popped into my head, why not try playing 1. c3? Before that I would always play 1. e4 as white, unless I was trying out some weird opening just for fun. But after I tried 1. c3 I really liked it. I noticed that it was a very defensive opening, but unlike most defensive openings where I move a pawn to the third rank on my first move 1. c3 doesn't block either of my bishops. And since I really hate fianchettoing my bishops, that's pretty important for me. So I decided to try using the opening against a significantly stronger opponent, and, judging from this game alone, it worked pretty well!

Nice one, inspired by you I just had a pretty crazy repetition draw.

Wow... that definitely was pretty crazy. But the repitition was forced, unlike in my game, where the computer just decided it didn't feel like playing anymore. Btw, when u played 14. Nc3, did u already have something in mind, or was it just a desperate move?

Scottrf

I saw that I'd get a check on d5 if my rook was taken and that should be enough seeing as he could only go to b8. I wasn't really calculating much this game though.

Macer, I think 12.Be2 is a quite bad move

Well, yes, I agree, it does waste a tempo. But I would say that it's not terrible, since it doesn't do any harm other than wasting tempo, in a position where tempo is not extremely important.

um... none really. Just felt like sharing the game.

I play the computer a lot because it plays really aggresively and challenges you with moves that just don't follow the opening lines. Often they  seem ridiculous, like the computer giving up a knight in the centre for a pawn. But that ruins your pawn formation and you have to be really on your toes to stop an attack coming through the hole.

I find it helps me prepare for unusual moves in an OTB game.
