I got a draw against the Ludwig bot, but this is so confusing.

Sounds about right, but I promise it's not Inspect Element.

Google says "If a forced move is repeated 3 times before checkmate it's a draw."

But that may be talking about draw by repetition (sometimes vs insufficient material)

Oh, I wasn't saying your "that" type of player. I was just making fun of the computer.

It's clear as day that you won the game fair and square.

I didn't win, I was white, and I should've lost that game.

Thank you for elaborating, though.

Ohhh, whoops

Inkblot23

You're fine.

So, new information has come to light. It may be that it just did a "Checkmate vs Repetition Draw" but didn't mention repetition, though that may be incorrect.

A checkmate vs. repetition draw is not a thing.

Karlabos

You can never win.

Even if you checkmate

I know lol

ShadowCellen

Wait I think I saw someone with a similar situation

Ilampozhil25

i know why

the 50 move rule was triggered at the same move as your checkmate(i think) and thus the game result used the 50 move rule but the reason used the checkmate

I think it's the 50 move rule. Can you send the link to the game?

it was against the computer I'm not good enough to even talk to Ludwig, much less play him. Not even actually got a link.

Actually, that’s funny. I don’t know what happens if you checkmate on the 50 move rule. It’s actually a draw? I always assumed the checkmating player would have won. That sucks.

Also, does it differ between black and white? Because, technically, if you mate as white on the 50th move, the move isn’t over yet (because it is black to move THEN a draw is called) so does white win? If so, also lmao that sucks.

InsertInterestingNameHere

Hm. I wonder if that’s also the case with FIDE and USCF rules, because as far as I know chess.com uses USCF rules with the exception of that insufficient mating material rule.

mmm true

So the engine made 40 pointless moves being a rook up, then changed his mind and checkmated the opponent just as the 50-move rule kicked in. Meanwhile, the human opponent patiently sat through 50 full moves with a single king. I don't know which part is more incredible.

I'm on a school computer and can't Inspect Element because American schools are paranoid, so it may very well be a bug.

They banned inspect element in your school? Why?

It's a very recent thing where I am. I suppose teachers were not technologically savvy enough to know to refresh the tab when a student showed them as "proof" that they had done something when really they had just modified it with inspect.

Think, modifying the date it says it was turned in by and making the teacher believe it is a glitch on their computer's part. Ha!

To the OP: Did you report that to the stuff? Normally they answer this questions within 2 or 3 days. You can ask all the questions upcoming in this threat: wether white will win,  because the move is not "finished" fully but black loose. And also wether this is fitting to the USCF rules. Think we all would be interested how they answer. If you don´t know how to ask, in the left bottom corner there is a link "help" that leads to the stuff.

I'm not that patient, seeing as the moves were all within like 2 seconds of each other. I think the 40 rook moves is pretty funny, though, especially when set to 1200.
