I only give queen for king! :)

This is a game between me and a friend of mine. He took my queen but didn't see the forced mate. Enjoy! *Later edit: I changed the edited game with an actual game I play'd on this site so there's a evidence that this trap works many times! (2 times on the same day actually :D)

exiledcanuck

Would have loved to have seen the look on his face.

hondoham

This is also a famous mating pattern.  Look in the Chessopedia under

Legall's Mate....  the 1st example is very similar

----------

update - with th knight not legall's mate after all. and it's commonly called "Legal's mate" in the glossary of very popular chess books

@exiledcanuck: he was very pumped up about the fact that he got my queen and he said why did u do this and asked me if I want to take back the move (we are friendz and play 4 fun). When I said no and play Bxf7+ he stoped for 5 minutes and then moved the king hoping that I don't see the m8 :D Then we laughed about that :)

@hondoham: I know that, I learned it from a chess game that I used to replicate the game ;)

Terlimone

I learned something very important today. I surely walked right into a trap like that too. Thanks for sharing.

@matthiassmall: of course! but black has a more tempting and apparently harmless move. I think more than half of the players from this site whould fall for it.

@Terlimone: glad I could help. It's allways a good idea to learn from ur mistakes (not only in chess)  Now u can perform this type of mate to others;)

@ matthianssmall: because that's the way I enjoy playing chess! If I spot a variation that can probably lead to me winning or winning material I won't hesitate even if it's not 100%. You gotta rekon: the feeling u get when u succed (and even the one when u sit with ur fingers crossed) is worth the bad feeling if u lose. And... a knight down isn't a clear defeat.

It will turn out a very enjoyable game anyway. For me at least it does, I have a different style of play than u do.

I'm just saying that it is always a bad idea to play a move that causes you to sit there with your fingers crossed during your opponent's turn. Why attempt a combination if you know that it is not forced and could potentially be losing?

 Good point.

Still I like the fact I have seen this little combo. It might help me in case I feel a rush to attack an apparent gift of a queen. Cheers AMP.

While your flair for dramatic and suspenseful chess moves should be commended, it's quite hard to improve one's game if the player is purposefully making blunders hoping the opponent will take the bait.  As your level of competition increases this will only result in more and more losses.

Just my thoughts...Best of luck in future games!

@EngWannabe: 10q for ur advice and I agree with you (and with matthianssmall) to some extent. But as your status says: "Life is like chess...", chess is a way of expressing your personality in the game: young players find a delight in gambits just as in life are forced to make gambits to progress. As far as the loses go... well by losing u get the oportunity to improve ur game if u study carefully why u lost-cut ur loses as an american whould say :)). It is a fault by my side to memorize opening traps but I think I don't exagerate.

Excellent trap, never fails to amaze!!

Nxe5 now is bad as black takes with the knight and protect his bishop...
hitmenow
Yep, Legals mate is a beautiful thing.
AMPaunescu_RO

@Zerrogi: yes, after the smotherd m8 this is my favourite type of mate :D

@Boring384: I know that but as I said before many pple don't consider taking a lousy knight when can take the queen for a bishop :D

@hitmenow: it's Legall, he was french :P
