Do you hate the players who just calculate so far and in a few moves, your position goes from ok (in your head) to completely busted.

Players on lower level just don't get it. Calculation is NOT everything. That doesn’t mean calculation is not a vital part. Positional understanding is important!  By position, I mean mostly the pawn structures and their shifts, and playing accordingly. It’s broader than you think it is. Until you don't understand the importance, you won't progress much. Ask any GM, and they'll say they don't really calculate much unless they think it’s necessary. They try to reach a certain setup and shift the structure that is favorable to them.

Sure. Go ahead. If you think you are lacking on tactical category, improve it. If want to improve calculations, practice blindfold.  It will improve your calculation significantly. But, you can only reach a certain state and be stuck there forever no matter how much you improve your calculation depth.

Another thing. Calculation capacity and tactical vision are not the same thing. To spot a tactic, you must train your mind with that pattern.

No I hate the players who calculate everything because they have no understanding of chess

Yes i know, i guess i could have been more clear, i mean like in open positions, where there are tactics, and if you get that position against a tactical, calculative dude, then your toast (unless you are one tongue.png) . Also, you would be suprised by my actual OTB rating...

considering that ke2 is the only move that doesn't hang stuff, I'd say it's pretty obvious it's the best move

But after Ke2, b5 seems to destroy the knight.

Still, I would have played Ke2 in a blitz game anyway before panicking after b5.

Yeah, to play Ke2 in a rapid game might be obvious but in Blitz you have to be conscious about the fact that the Queen is the only active piece of black in the game.

Considering how crazy I am I don't put it past myself to play such a move
