YEs, I think that may be true. I have seen that loss of confidence sometimes too. I I almost never resign. My dad got me on that habit when I started playing. I'm glad he did. THere have been games where I would of resigned, but didn't and ended of winning or giving a stronger fight, because the other person made mistakes.
Lost confidence

I agree. The Queen is probably one of the most protected pieces besides the King, usally when a Queen is lost the "morale meter" goes very low, if the player that suffered the loss of his Queen does not have any Rooks; then the player will probably lose by either: resinging or checkmate.
In my opinion, the best thing to do in this situation is to keep on fighting to the end.

If you lose your queen without compensation, I see nothing with resigning the lost position. That is standard practice. In the example you gave, white is not down a queen, but is still down a whole rook, so I understand why he would resign.
Anyway, resignation threads come a dime a dozen here, and nobody likes them. Some people feel you should fight to the end. Most people find it acceptable to resign early. Some folks even think it is very rude not to resign lost positions. I say, let people do their thing. It is a game, after all.
