6/0 time controls.  This game is overflowing with tactics.  They're not entirely sound, but I do think they're quite spectacular and difficult to meet, especially in blitz.

Thoughts?

  1. I like 2.Nc3 right away, and I will give it ! for live games. I am trying to completely abandon 2.Nf3 3.d4 for white in sicilian. In my experience, most of people have no idea what to do when you dont play 2.Nf3 3.d4.
  2. 5...Nfd7 more looks like ? to me. 5...Bd7 is good for black. Or even Nbd7.
  3. 8.d3 ?! I don't know. I don't like blocking my bishops like that. d4 with Bd3 maybe.
  4. 12.Ng5? Why?
  5. 12...Nd4 good post for black Knight.
  6. 13...Nxb3 terrible move. Giving strong Knight for bishop that is useless at the moment. I think black was afraid of exchange Bxd4 without reason. Or he was just going for doubled pawns
  7. 15.Qh4 looks like disaster to me, but you did scare him good. I think that with hxg5 and piece up he could make it in time to move King to queen side.
  8. 18...Ne5? I would go for exchange here, with 18...f5.
  9. 21...Nxd3? Again taking worthless pawn. Maybe 21...Ng6
  10. 30.Qxd3 and now it shows how taking that pawn was costly. I think that with 2 rooks and B+N he would have very good chances vs you.

Well played, unsound, but with some cohonas. He, we gambiters know that on 1 game like this, we have 4 games where we fail.

Streptomocin: Yeah, I like Nc3 better as well.  It takes your opponent out of their familiarities (you always expect open Sicilians) and it has dangerous attacking lines as well.

About Nfd7, I have trouble accepting it as well, but I hesitate to give it ? designation so early in the game.

As per QH4, I think black is forced to give back the material.  Otherwise, white's mating attack comes too fast: it takes 2 moves to get the rook over to the h file, and it takes that same number of moves just to extricate the bishop, which is a prerequisite if the black king is to escape from to the queenside.  With that in mind, the only way I can see black surviving is to give back the material, after which, as we see, it gets tricky.

All that being said, I do agree that black is probably better with the two rooks vs. the queen, but it's a very tricky position to play in blitz controls.

I love when I play game like this and then CM GM edition destroys me. It is interesting that even after 30.Qxd3 you are =

Yeah, I still don't know though.  After 30 Qxd3, it still looks like black is better.  It might be the "equal" material score or something like that but, even so, at that point... I don't think I fully agree with Chessmaster at all.

Forget it. CM is stupid, I posted Fritz 12 analysis.

15. ... hxg5 16. fxg5 Ne5 is crushing for Black.  There is no way for White to continue with kingside aggression, and Black will steamroll the center up a piece.  The knight on e5 cannot be dislodged, and it can always retreat to g6 to defend the kingside.  What was your idea if the opoonent played this line?

Idea was to scare him and he did that.

Alright, that's fine.  I was getting the impression, though, that there was an argument that the move is "good" when in fact it's losing.

P.S. - That's a bit of an abuse of that quote. Wink

ViperX88: there was also a bit of miscalculation involved as well.  Miscalculation is always good for bringing worse moves onto the ascent.
