@chamo,
Almost forgot. You did ask me a question.
I am of the opinion that anyone who wants to write a blog should be able to write a blog. It can be a source of enjoyment and learning, and it will generally force you to write better and clarify one's ideas.
So go for it!
@chamo,
Here are my five pieces of advice I would give to any player who wants to improve. They are arranged by priority.
(1) Study and play over tactics, promotions, and mating patterns. They are all fun to study and you’ll have fun as you build up a repertoire.
(2) Play over entire games that end in mate, or that lead to a forced mate. That way you can see the processes a good player might use to get into a mating pattern.
(3) Play over correspondence games as opposed to OTB and blitz games. Correspondence games are much, much richer in ideas and mating patterns.
(4) Select one to three openings and make them your specialty. Do the same for Black defences.
(5) Hardest part: study the endgame. Maybe I should not tell you this – but my specialty are King and pawn endings.
