Very nice, I remember that puzzle!
Feels great right, winning a game because you remember learning it.
I've had such an occasion when I first learned about the Lucena position in rook endgames. Only a couple days later I was able to convert a Lucena position into a win , while in time trouble, because I remembered studying it.
The overall game wasn't too impressive (I missed a few chances which were much better), but the ending was cool because I remembered a chess pattern from just over a week ago. I'll show the game I recently played and then show the pattern I recognized this idea from.
In the game, the position begins after 22...g6?? (...h6 kept the game alive, but after 23. f4! cutting off the h2 Bishop, then White is still better.)
The pattern I remembered mid-game because of a similar position I saw a little over a week ago. The chess.com Feb. 23, 2023 puzzle was Daniil Dubov vs Sarin Nihal chess.com: FIDE World Rapid Championship 2022.12.27. Here was that Daily Puzzle:
I think part of this was so cool because mid-game I remembered seeing a position like this before and it helped me find the move. Basking in the glow of the finish, I tried to think back to where I first saw this checkmate pattern and I thought it was from a Daily Puzzle on chess.com less than a week ago. Apparently, it just feels more recent as it was a little over a week, but part of the excitement is that I remembered (correctly) where I first found that pattern. That is a cool one to get in a game and surprising when so soon after I've encountered the idea.
I thought it was a fun comparison others might enjoy me sharing as well.
