Was thoroughly beat today. My opponent did well in creating threats and improving his pieces, as well as in the opening.

"21. Qd5!!Extremely strong! This move does everything at once - defends the mate threat, defends the rook on d1, attacks the rook on a8, attacks the knight on d7... Just spectacular. (21. Bxg7+ Kxg7 22. Kxf1 (22. Ne6+ Kf6 23. Kxf1 Rc8) 22... Qxg5 23. Rxd7 Qf4 24. a4 Rc8I was expecting a continuation like this, where I like my position, but my opponent found a much better alternative) 21... Rf8A sad move to have to make."
Sorry to rain on your parade (or your opponent's parade?), but 21...Rf8 was absolutely not forced, and you missed two much better defenses: 21...Bxg2! and 21...Qxg2+! 22.Qxg2 Bxg2.
I could post the variations that arise after each (no engine, just from my head), but the chess teacher in me wants to leave it as an exercise for you to work out. As far as I can see, the best white can do in both lines is make his way to a pawn-up endgame, while walking a very narrow path to avoid losing altogether.
You are right, 21...Bxg2 is the best move, but white can still retain and huge advantage with 22.Qxd7 Qxd7 23.Rxd7 gxf6 and now 24.Ne6 win the exchange.
In both cases black is losing but fighting with an exchange down is much better then the game continuation, where black is instantly routed after 21...Rf8? 22.Be7!
Yes, but I'm not sure you saw the best defense for black or the best response for white. After 21...Bxg2 22.Qxd7 Qxd7 23.Rxd7 gxf6 24.Ne6, black has 24...Bh3! I actually thought this leads to an equal endgame after 25.f8=Q+ Rxf8 26.Nxf8 Bxd7 27.Nxd7 (and I thought white should play 24.Nxh7! instead of 24.Ne6 to win a pawn). BUT- now I see that after 24...Bh3 white plays 25.Rxa7! and then does win the exchange.
So 21...Bxg2 or 21...Qxg2+ (which transposes) does lose. But white might not have found the optimal response on a practical game.
I considered both 21...Qxg2+ and Bxg2, and I guess I should've posted some alternate variations for them, but decided against them after some calculation because I thought the way to continue for white was clear enough for those lines not to be of any value to me. I didn't see how strong 23. Qf3 in the game continuation would be in advance, and definitely didn't see 26. Be7! coming, so to me it looked like I had better chances trying to hold on with Rf8 than having everything consolidate immediately. I didn't think 21...Bxg2 22.Qxd7 Qxd7 23.Rxd7 gxf6 24.Ne6 Bh3 would work because of 25. Re7, which also wins easily, though 25. Rxa7! is even stronger! At any rate, I could foresee the how my opponent would beat me in the event of 21... Bxg2 or 21... Qxg2+ but couldn't see exactly how my opponent would beat me in the event of 21... Rf8. He sure showed me though...
can you please post games where you actually win (like if the final position were to continue you can win against Stockfish 8)?
Who are you to say I cannot win if I continue? A grand master? An emperor? A deity?
can you please post games where you actually win (like if the final position were to continue you can win against Stockfish 8)?
Does this one suit you? (And who is Stockfish 8?)
Because in your game against @sanjayw the resulting position is still equal and you can't win against Stockfish 8 in that position
I suppose my 12 move mate did not therefore suit you. And I still do not know who Stockfish 8 is. Could it be that you have me confused with someone else? Or is there some reason that you are stalking and taunting me? You don't like my games? Don't review them.
I, sir or madam, am not a troll. I am a diamond member in good standing, with staff members among my list of friends. I am old. I am dying. I usurp my right to post.
That said, I believe I understand now the point that cjxchess16 was trying to make. It is a logical one. I will therefore refrain from posting games other than those that I win outright, either by check mate, material advantage, or extreme positional advantage.
I only recently began playing again after a 30 year hiatus. My last dealings with chess are detailed here:
Contritely, I ask forgiveness of my ignorance of modern players. I also hadn't heard of Magnum Carlos, or whatever it is, upon my return. There are trolls, and there are pariah. I ask that you forego the passive-aggressive signage, and just tell me if I'm not welcome.
I ask for no special treatment, but neither have I done anything to merit the rudeness of giant yellow and black signs. It is true that you've taught me something, but perhaps I can teach a thing or two myself.

Does this count? My opponent kept stumbling on a bit, possibly because he was higher rated, but he was lost on move 12 (trapped Queen):
I did post up in the other thread when I started this one a year ago....
Not that you or anyone else should care, but this thread has already become ridiculous and so I'm unfollowing and going back to the first thread.

My regrets and apologies. You stay. I'll go.

My game against mermaid man probably shortest here and the other game I posted the flashiest ;)
My miniature (#37) might be boring to people who have seen this idea, but for people who haven't this is a standard idea you can use in your own games (double on e file, sac knight on f7).
