Wow, I haven't been on in a while! Played this short game against my grandfather this past weekend, who taught me the game as a kid way back. Enjoy guys. happy.png

Oh come on. 16...Qg4 merely wins, but 16...Qh3!! would have caused the imaginary onlookers to shower the game with gold coins! Especially after 17. Bd5! Rxd5! (not 17...Bxd5? 18.Qxd5!) 18.Qxf4 Qxg2+!! 19.Kxg2 Rg5+ 20.Kh3 Bc8+ 21.Kh4 Rg2+ 22.Kh5 g6#!

In case anybody cares, this is all from my head, no board and definitely no engine. Actually, the engine would probably prefer 16...Qg4. happy.png

Yeah, Qh3 was definitely more spectacular.

BTW, your last miniature was really cool with the Rook Sac on e6 I think it was.  It was a blitz game, right?  So the sac must have just "felt right", yes?

16...Qh3! is indeed a way more beautiful finish! Well spotted!!

Actually, 22. g6 is NOT mate in that sequence; there's Kh6! Instead of 22...g6, black must play 22... Rd8, both threatening Rd5+ and also allowing g6 to be followed up by Bf8! For example, if 22. c4 to prevent Rd5+, then 22...g6 23. Kh6 Bf8#. White cannot parry the double threat of Rd5+ and g6+ after 22...Rd8.

Interestingly, the same theme can follow from 16... Qg4, if white tries 17. Bd5.

Absurd setup but a nice mating picture! (Blackmar-Diemer-Ryder Gambit)

One of the best checkmates that my opponent didn't see coming grin.png

Fantastic commentary @msc472!

Barefoot_Player

Not a miniature superflash. Not even close. Not even a good game.

Please look up the definition of a chess miniature. We do have standards here.

gchess33

Slow development and neglecting control of the center doesn't pay.

Not a miniature but very nice King hunt.

Hate to rain on one's parade, but 27.Qc3! threatens two mates on the next move.. And it's a very quiet move, without a check.
