You should stop playing the French Exchange. It just equalizes.
This is exactly what black wants, a nice and open position.

There is no equal game when the players are not equal. Black can be worse, equal, or better in the French exchange. It all depends on his understanding of the position better/worse than the opponent, but this applies for pretty much any sound opening.
