Question about this position

White just castled, leaving the pawn at e4 defenseless, but black decided not to take that pawn and made another move like Be7. Why didn't black take the pawn with the knight?

In this position, both sides show 4 moves on the board....it must be white's move.

Somehow the Black got an extra move. It should be White's turn in this position.

(1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 d6 4. 0-0 Nf6)
