Rook tactics...

So I played this game in live chess today against an opponent with a rating of about 1700, he/she played the Scandinavian defense, an opening I know well, but it ran into a variation I had never seen before (knight to f6). I played the opening as well as I could and the game played out, in my opinion, rather interestingly.

So here it is, time controls were 20 minutes per person with no incremental time gain.

I missed taking on F7 with my bishop and then checking with the knight and picking up my opponents bishop.

10. D4 runs into E4 doesn't it?

Lord-Chaos

he meanst 11 e4 i think, because otherwise the rook wouldn't be on e1. Right Anthony? Intresting game =D

10...e4? 11.Rxe4+ lol.

I can't take with a rook that's not on E1...

Kupov

Well that's what I played... but you're telling me to play 10 D4. I can't play two moves at once.

Btw, Nf6 is the Icelandic Gambit line of the Scandinavian. I favor it quite often, and especially when I'm looking for a "sharp" game.

11 d4 is definitely a lot better than d3, good call.

What's the mainline?

General-Lee

Kupov, whenever i play the scandinavian i ALWAYS play 2...Nf6. I like it MUCH better than the wasted tempo of Qxd5.

shuttlechess92

3.d4 preparing c4 sometime.

just opening advice =P

good game.

I don't believe defending the pawn that way is the mainline, it looks terrible.

Lord-Chaos

maybe the Nc3 in the move list is a main line too Kupov?

philtheforce

the brilliance of the rooks ... although if you get a rooks pawn endgame (both same position) it tends to end in a draw so depends where rooks are and in what position?
