i am playing as white. After Rd7, i was trying to save pawn on a5. should i take on g6? then i saw Re6 but my bishop is in a pin. i played it anyways and won. my question is why can't the king take my rook on e6 because of bishop pin?

You've got to remember, pinning isn't a rule in and of itself, it is a consequence of another rule - that you're not allowed to make a move placing your own king into check.  If we remove that rule and make it so the winner is the person who first captures the opponent's king, then when we consider your position, we ask "who captures the king first?"

So, if 43. ... KxR

Then 44. BxK, white wins.  Black doesn't have time to capture white's king because (this is how I think of it, anyway), all of black's pieces instantly die when the king is captured.

Maybe they're covered in explosives and the king has to press a button every turn (the clock, maybe?)  to keep them from going off (a dead man's switch).  Or, maybe they all commit seppuku for the dishonor of letting their king get captured.

Anyway, the point is that pieces still have their ability to threaten an opponent's piece if they're pinned, especially when it comes to checking the enemy king.  In your game, the black king can not capture the rook because doing so puts him in check from your bishop.

Hey, that's one of my "Gaiwan Mates"! Thanks for providing another example!
