Ugly mate
There is a famous former football (soccer) player who says: "there are no ugly goals, ugly is to not score".
I guess it is like that in chess too.
i know right? not very ugly at all, and btw, have you been playing left hand vs right hand chess l8ly? Cos a lot of mistakes happen this way-i have tried it!
There were a number of mistakes in the game, but overall it was pretty well attacked by white. The only thing I really object to is the proportion of exclamation marks to question marks. Marshall's 23... Qg3!! is deserving of a double exclamation mark. Apparently in the same category is the logical 4. e4!! and the capture of an unprotected pawn with the correct knight 23. Nexg5!!. Basically what I'm saying is, although the game was good, be more quick to think about what you can improve on in your play rather than how many exclamation marks you can put on your moves.
I like exclamation marks
What's so ugly about it?
i dont like that pawn there, it makes me think i could have done something to mate quicker with it, which i obviously couldnt have, but...
Okay, as I looked, I wasn't particularly impressed with 19. g4!, and so I checked with an engine. It turns out to be actually 19.g4?!, giving up a pawn just to develop Black's rook. So I get it - you want to play like Tal, but a bad move is still a bad - definitely not a (!). Also, 23. Nexg5!! is just a pawn grab - nothing to write home.
You also missed a mate with 26. Qh8#, and missed it for the next few moves. Okay, let me now put in my full thoughts:
