I think there's some ideological conflict going on here, Eastern people like the Chinese and Japanese fight to the last man- demonstrated during the Japanese invasion of China and when the Americans were 'island hopping'; Western people have an idea of conserving forces by surrendering (and hopefully regain that conserved energy by recapturing the land-sorta like rematch) , demonstrated by prisoner statistics.

It wasn't a fight between a NINJA and a SAMURAI Wink.

I think that was well done to teach these spoiled and annoying ''never resign people'' a lesson.

OnlyAPawnInTheirGame

wow. hahaha.

ringwraith10

whats the point of chess if you resign? (in my opinion it is giving up!) I am proud of the fact that I have never resigned a rated game on chess.com throughout the time I have been on this site.

This is misplaced pride. You should actually be embarrassed by this. You have a fixation that "giving up" is always bad and there lies your confusion. It all depends on the context. If you're pursuing a woman and she tells you to leave her alone or she's calling the police, then "giving up" is not a bad thing. Look at the chess players that people respect. They wear suits, they have an aura of sophistication, and they know that resigning when lost is a sign of intelligence and dignity. It means, they get it! Your "never give up" attitude in this situation is a big cold slap in the face to decency. You're like those chickens that run around with their head cut off that don't know they're dead. You're like those freaked out soldiers that aimlessly wander the jungle hopelessly unware the war is over. Whatever you do, please don't feel pride about this obnoxious record of yours. Feel the shame.

I say it's both parties are at fault here. White should have easily won with 2 Queens, it should have been over right away. But it's all black's fault four not resigning at around te 45th move when they were down 8 pieces to 3.

Titan_SA

Good manners to resign, Capice a good lesson

I don't want to start a whole other when to resign discussion, so I'll just say I thoroughly enjoyed watching him do that to you.

I agree 4 queen seems a bit passive-aggressive to me. Two queens easily finish the game. OTOH, why in the world would you play on after your last pawn is taken? Even Samurai fall on their swords when the situation is hopeless. Any fairly good player is not going to stalemate you.

PauGutierrez

lol you should have resigned earlier there was no way you could get half point.

anyway, you were lucky; check another game he played...

Diabeditor

I've always wanted to have 2 bishops on squares of the same colour. To have 4 on the same colour, that would be really cool!

Besides, it could be worse (I only do this if my opponent insults me during the game though)

Haha i actually did this verse some1 in real life because they did not resign and i was up a queen and 2 rooks, then when i got my 3rd knight out of 5 he resigned.

I dont understand why a chess coach ( especially a titled coach ) would ever teach a student that they should NEVER resign ?!  Do any here, who teach, do that ?

This also could be a case of misquotation, or a half-learnt lesson. Some students do this to me once in a while, claiming that their wrong answer in a test is what I taught them in class. Dog ate my report. Yeah.

PauGutierrez

I know. By the second Queen they should resign.

Personally, I try to give mate as fast as I can, why loose time and focus in those games when you can shift it to more challenging games.

Instead of (on last move) Kg6 to mate in the next move, he just moves a pawn up. Now THAT is stupid.

Ej_Dirst didn't post this thread or that game. You're crawling through his archive and judging him? Are you sure?
