I know!!! I was too thrilled to find a perpetual check after down 8 point material in middle game so finding checkmate wasn't even on my mind lol. Lesson is when you have a draw in your bag just take all the time on your clock to look for a win. Can't lose.
My first game ever with the windmill. I took everything on his 7th and my opponent couldn't do a thing about it. It was amazing, probably the most satisfying tactic in chess? After that I offered the draw. He declined. So we drew after 3 fold repetition. I was still down significant material so was happy to take a draw but turns out I missed the win and my opponent missed it too!!!!
Well never again.
