can you guys tell some advantages and disadvantages of blitz chess?

Kowarenai

i feel like these are just random forums for points

Advantage is that you can win games on time if you are faster than your opponent.

This can also be a disadvantage if you are accurate but too slow.

if i wanted to for points i would spam somebodies notes a forum= 1 point? its so easy to gain points by posting on somebodies notes then creating forums

ChampoftheBepoCamp

I am tilting so um yea...

but spam moves and stick to openings or positions in opening to grind time

advantages are that it improves your speed, calculation and tactical ability but disadvantage is that it can be super addictive and affect your classical ability. it can make bad habits and make you really bad at being somewhat cocky or just arrogant, not taking time and simply spamming weird moves that lose in the next 5 or 4 moves. for me blitz is fun, its just super exhausting and really hard but also nice to grind at for hours without end at nights

Helps practice time management, and is great for practicing/exploring openings quickly.

That said it can reinforce bad habits, like not giving proper time to calculation.

+: it's fun and doesn't take long

-: you don't learn that much from it

In Blitz you learn to play according to the time left. If your time is low, you play fast and when you have plenty of time, you play a bit slowly. It also kind of increases the speed of calculation. I have  seen that I am able to calculate some pretty tough sacrifices.

The downside is, some players often pick 3|0 Blitz, which is the incorrect option. You have to play very fast and losing a bit of time is very crucial. 3|2 and 5|5 are the best modes of  Blitz currently to play now.

making chess moves and winning games is fun, blitz = more chess?

Slower is better for improving, as is the case for basically any endeavour. But playing music fast is more fun than slow.

Do both?

Blitz should be played sparingly.

Longer time controls are much better for improvement.

But even longer time controls run a risk: what happens when you get low on time and panic?

Most importantly,

- more blitz games can be squeezed into the same duration for a single long-control game

- this can be seen as an advantage and a disadvantage where you gain recognition of tactics and shortlisting of candidate moves quickly at an opportunity cost of lowered quality of play due to insufficient time in each game.
