1,000th game

This is a small thing but I’ve just played my 1,000th game here on chess.com
(and got the win thankfully)

I’ve never learnt any openings, tactics or that sort, not even lessons and such, all I knew at the beginning was how the pieces move

I played chess during my free time and just in a way, learnt organically by only experience from playing games

I would say my rating is somewhere in between 900-1000, which I guess there’s been the saying of:
“Once you cross 1000 rating you must learn openings to advance”
which is extremely true in my experience

Of course if you see my games, I always start with the pawn above the king as white, and for black, I would respond depending on the opponents first move, which usually is the same opposing pawn (usually they start with the pawn above the king or queen moving by 2 squares up and i respond with the same)

Initially, I loved getting the fast checkmate, which I basically bring my bishop and queen out quick, and if the opponent is careless, I would win the game fast and feel like a boss

But overtime, I felt like the move to bring out the queen early always backfired and resulted in me being in a bad position

So I went for more safer openings, but always trying to go for checkmate

I guess I would say after 1,000 games, I’m a player that is decently aggressive unless I go up a piece, in which then I just try to trade and bring the game to distance (overtime, I learnt that +3 isn’t much early game, but late in game, it’s a huge difference)

So that has been my experience with chess, it’s fun but sometimes I miss the train or bus stop while playing it on my phone, and the worst part is when you lose after doing that

For some reason, I’m always hesitant to learn openings, maybe because I want to experience the game organically

What I mean by that is, imagine if chess came out today, and people started learning chess from scratch, no tactics, no strategy, everyone exploring the game fresh

That’s all, I felt like sharing this just because, why not?

Hopefully I will write one more passage in the future when I hit 2,000 games!!!
