Not very much, however playing long games will help your 1 minute chess playing skills.
1 minute chess

1 minute games does improve your chess!
- your blitz skills that is.
I'm glad that you like it, I adore it as well!

I think 1 minute game does not improve chess skills. The best way to improve chess is to play correspondance chess. Think carefully and analyze all possible moves is better way to improve chess, but one minute game is really enjoyable, especially when my opponent having time pressure and make a blunder :) .

I totally disagree. When your playing one minute chess, you are ACTUALLY PLAYING which is the only way to learn. Correspondence is a different animal, its more clinical, too casual to actually get a sense of your real chess skill. But for beginning players there is nothing better than to PLAY CHESS, which means hands on, sitting down playing a game without stopping. I wouldn't play 1 minute though, I prefer 10 min as you get much better quality of games. Once you get used to playing blitz then I feel CC chess has other avenues for chess exploration as its a good way to test out ideas that came from the the crucible of real play.

From experience id say bullet chess(1min) only helps your initial thinking speed, other than that is for fun... 1min by itself is bad for your overall though, If you have too many 1mins, you wouldn't do as well in longer games..on the contrary, the more longer games you do, the more indepth understanding you have in 1min.. which will help you make the best move in a split sec.

Playing any kind of chess will improve your skill. When playing very fast games, you will begin to notice the patters and common combinations of chess, how to use them, and how to act against them. Also remember that the strategies in blitz and short games can be, and is, quite different from longer games. But, a one minuet game, will not improve your skill as much as a longer un-timed game would, as you have more time to soak in the game, and enjoy a more rich playing experience with the clock set at an hour or more. Additionally, with a long game, you will care more about winning, and try harder if you in a losing position.
So, yes, playing short games improves your skill, but playing longer games will be a little more beneficial to you. I'm glad you enjoy it though.

you like it because it is easy to make fast move compared to good moves. Try playing three minute games. Fast but requires more thought.

I recently Started to play alot of 1 minute chess. In a matter of two days I got my rating up from 900 to 1300. I really enjoy 1 minute chess, and now it has become one of my favorite things to play, but every time I win with just my king and my opponent has a rook and a king i can not help but wonder is this really beneficial to me. My question is does 1 minute chess really help to improve your chess playing skills?
how do you and your opponent manage to loose all your material
except for a rook and two kings in one minute?

I've been a 1 minute game player for around 8 years... (first starting out on yahoo chess before it developed all the lag it has now) and i have to say that it does improve your chess in a couple of ways: 1. It helps you learn openings! (granted you have to read the basic moves of the openings you plan on using). and 2. it helps you memorize positions and recognize what moves to make in a certain position! You get lots and lots of repetition of many different kinds of positions which will help you make better moves in the long run! thats my 2 cents worth :)

I find one minute games to be extremely tolerant of blunders and actually a bit of a liability if that mindset spills over into my longer games. That being said, it's a really fun (and intense) time control -- makes my hands sweat.

Even if your opponent runs out of time, you can't win with a king. It's a forced draw, because it would be impossible for you to win even if you were given infinite time.

Bullet is good for entertainment and establishing bragging rights for making relatively decent moves almost reflexively. To say it makes one a better chess player--meaning the kind of chess that requires thought and investigation of the possibilities on the board--is an exaggeration though. Most anything else is more effective at making one a better player. The more of a beginner one is the more that applies.
Blitz can be okay for running through your openings and even picking up ideas. 5-10 minute games and so on can be useful but I wouldn't ever make them a significant part of any learning regimen.
