Hi! I'm SyrushY, but you can just call me Sushi. I'm pretty much just a beginner chess player, and I'm trying to improve myself using books, chess videos, GM games etc...

But even so, I can't really seem to get out of  1100 ~1200 Elo. Not sure why I'm stuck at this point... well er- obviously one of the reasons is because I suck, but if any of you guys can give me some tips or some advice I could use, I'll be glad to hear them!

And with this being said, I hope you have a good day, reader of this post!

Looks like you are only playing 10 minute games. It may not seem it, but this is very fast for a game of chess. For a beginner it's almost impossible to translate what you learn from books, videos, GM games into real games if you only spend a few seconds on each move. If you wish to improve long games eg.30 minutes are the way forward. Then you have chance to think hard and focus each game. The value to learning of playing slowly is much greater than playing quickly because your brain has a chance to absorb and retain more information.

Thank you for replying to my post, I am very grateful for that! Though I thought that playing 10 minutes games would improve my instincts, meaning that whatever I learned would be converted into my subconscious. But personally, I kind of like to finish games faster and not wait for my opponent 10 mins to do every move xd

In this case since you think that the right way is to play slower, Then I'll do exactly what you said and see if things will turn out to be better!

Thank you Strangemover.
