Wow, did everyone see the Grischuk - Le game that just finished? I can't believe Grischuk actually won that! He was down a pawn in a relatively quite endagame & was playing on just the 30 second increment. He was averageing around 1 minute for a while & Le had maybe 7 minutes. It goes to show you have to keep playing hard no matter what the situation because nothing can be taken for granted.

Also, Yi & Mamedyarov tied with 2 draws so they go to tiebreak tomorrow.

Also check out Tomashevsky-Aronian, I can't believe Tomashevsky saved his lost position and knocked Aronian out...

It is very difficult to point out improvements in Aronian's play.

As Tomashevsky pointed out, Aronian is probably winning after 24...Nb4! Also, 28...Nb4 would be an improvement, and black would be better.

However, we cannot really expect them to calculate so accurately, as even engines were having some difficulty evaluating the position after Nxh7 (white seems to have full compensation though). I believe that it is probably lost after 22.e5?, which is the wrong move order (22.Rce1 followed by e5 prevents Bxg2, and there are forks against the b7 rook if Bxb7 is played, so it is a clear improvement), allowing the said Nb4 shot.

Also I doubt that he is 14 years old.

LOL! Just like the "12" year old pitcher I saw in the Little League World Series today: 5'10" tall and 170 pounds..

I hate playing kids.  You just never know what you are facing.  A 14 year old who was an up-and-comer six months ago may be finding other interests besides chess and flattening out, or he could on the fast track for a title and improving 400 points ahead of his rating.

And you just can't tell by looking if a kid has done his endgame training.

You mean, like, when you play a middle aged white guy with combed hair, clean shirt and a ring on his finger you can know the state of his endgame skills?

Irjene

This kid proably paled a lot of Chinese chess and learned from that

MrDamonSmith

No. He didn't learn chinese chess, just this chess from when he was 6. He now just devotes himself to chess, no school.

Another racist. You should team up with that racist jaylovechess & really obsess over everybodys skin color. The pigmentation monitors are out tonight.

Thirty years ago Chinese players switched from Chinese chess to chess. For example, GM JiangChuan Ye learned to play chess at age 17 and he became a GM and a top-25 player. Nowadays, Chinese chess is not as popular as Go (WeiQi) or chess as a competitive sport partially because of China's domination in Chinese chess. When he says he doesn't go to school, I am not sure exactly what that means either. China has a youth team but what they used to do is they have a joint program with one of the best high schools in Beijing and they do take some regular classes there. I wish there was something like this in the US.

What did you previously say about the first person to scream "racist" ?

MrDamonSmith

I wasn't the first person to mention race as everyone can go read for themselves.

You took issue with this. I give up.

lol im untracking this forum...

NewArdweaden

Well, when I was 14, I didn't know any chess rules at all, and hence I didn't beat anyone. Thus, Wei Ji surely knows a lot of chess - but not in a regular way.

Really? 4 pawns for the bishop, I don't see how black has hopes of winning.

EDIT: Mamadyarov wins a few moves later.

Fair enough, I presumed you meant your position, as it wasn't the live position (or wouldn't be for long).

NewArdweaden

Yes, according to computer (not me), he was almost lost at around move 27.
