You are right. That darn little Yifan is the slacker. How dare she. All hail the great and mighty Oz - sorry I meant magnus  8-)

Anand, Ivanchuk, Kramnik, and rajdabeev or however that's spelled and everyone else above 2750 are the strongest players in the world.  youfan is very strong for her age and can improve,  but I don't see her beating Magnus or Anand

I think it's spelled Radjabov, and his rating is below 2750 to boot (2744). On the July list, those above 2750 were Anand (2798), Alexander Morozevich (2788), Kramnik (2788), Vassily Ivanchuk (2781), Veselin Topalov (2777), and Carlsen (2775).

While she probably would lose against Carlsen and Anand, her name is Hou Yifan. I highly doubt there is a pro chess player named Youfan. I checked FIDE's list, and Hou Yifan is the strongest non-GM in China right now. Then again, she has about 7 months to get her last GM norm if she is to become the youngest female GM in history.

Scut_Fargus- for what its worth I understood what you meant in your OP.  Its just a shame that so few people think before they post.

And for those posters who still don't get it - the point went a little something like this :

The potentially youngest female GM in history was carving up a womens tournament, but we were seeing no headlines.  The comment about making Magnus look like a slacker was not meant as a reflection of his chess skills or effort he puts into playing chess, it was simply a tongue in cheek comment making light of the current media situation that she is getting no coverage in.

Luckily for anyone who felt slighted by this blatant attack on Magnus ample posters flocked to this thread to point out that Magnus is infact NOT a slacker.  Captain Obvious strikes again.

Thank you chess.com community, I was starting to believe that Magnus was indeed a slacker.  Thanks for setting the record straight.

Headlines where? Here? You gotta be kiddin'.

You'll see plenty of Hou in Polgar's blog and also on the Chessbase site.

The original post was weak because she gets her due. Well, great to catch you up.

Okay, my post in reply was lacking (excuses, excuses, so many excuses)

but the point I should have expressed more clearly is my disdain for the typical response to so many threads with any sort of sarcasm, wit, or just a general difference in opinion.

Is there some scoreboard on the internet for number of times you catch someone out? To me it is completely insane that instead of anyone posting a game she has played and talking about her strong play the entire thread turned into a "magnus is not a slacker" frenzy / she's not even a real GM.

Sometimes the members of this site concern me with their apparent complete lack of anything even resembling a sense of humour.

I'm curious if anyone has analyzed the extent to which playing in women's tournaments hurts a young player's ability to rack up GM norms.

lol, Magnus looks quite hard but I reckon I could have him...

Anyway...

China are winning everything!!! let someone else have a go! China just seem to be "farming" people in any event. It all sounds familiar Soviet domination of chess and then came Bobby fischer...

It was a way of putting a humorous slant  on your defense of the male champion. You know the old chauvinist thing. It was meant to be light hearted not a toe tap in a stall.

Uh...I also mentioned Judit, not just Magnus. Judit=female. Sorry to let the facts trip you up.

You obviously missed the light hearted part. Don't take it so serious my friend I meant no direspect. Jeez guess I'll just go back to playing chess. Relax and enjoy our banter perhaps we can play a game

Forgive me for not making it clear in my original post but I was commenting on this site. I noticed I had to scroll past the headlines of the Men's tourny every day to find where the womens tourny articles were especially Hou accomplishment.

To be honest I thought there might be somewhere on this site that was about the news but I didn't check until a few minutes ago. The reason i never looked is that while this site has plenty of knowledgable and serious players, some large percentage of the posts are just silly (in this particular forum). They can go on and on about how many queens one should get before attempting mate or which piece is their most favoritest or how chess is sexist/racist because it has a king and a queen and different colors. Maybe my pen is racist too. Anyway, there was far too much silliness for me to go looking for news here while I was visiting the chessbase site and Susan Polgar's blog. Susan's blog in particular is handy because the news is typically hot off the presses and at times commented on by her. Lots of messages posted there too in response to news/topics and the noise level is much lower than here.

Now i have to congratulate scut_fargus for having what i dont have, and take every dumb comment in the forum, nicely and with respect. You really keep it cooled headed man.

And another thing is that society has constrained womens development, because of its chauvinists ideas and high participants. Hopefully we're entering an era where, people like:

Wont be attractive to prosperous and decent women, and will be obligated to reproduce with his own retard freinds, so that soon enough their genes will extinguish out of the evolutionary chain.

LOL, scut_fargus your the man.

It saddens me that anyone is stupid enough to take that post seriously.  All the more so because I know that stupid people tend to breed more rapidly.

Thanks Goldendog for the info on the sites. I've been to Polgar's but just skimmed it. I'll check it out again

Well I think things have been taken a slight bit out of focus here...

But now that we're here, I might as well say that, Beezelboob, you made a very stupid and insulting comment, even if you meant it only in humor - it was fair for Greco to call you on it. Even if you mean for something to be satirical, you should still check yourself to make sure you don't insult anyone - which you did. So think before you write next time.

That being said, I suppose it would be best to put this nonsense behind us and move on to bigger and better things - namely the initial purpose of this topic.

Truth be told, I've never heard of this new 14-year-old women's competitor... Maybe someone could post up an example game she has played so we can all see a bit of what she is capable of.

You know english people tend to be chauvinists, right, i mean not all but on general, and parting from the fact that you come into the forum and post something that has no humoristical aknoledgement, then come and instead of correcting  yourself or explaining me, you insult me. More so, i realize that your ego has been touched and your only way of defending your self is by insulting.

I congratulate those who have enough criteria in life as to not let their psicological impulses control them, then again your probably a kid, and if not you should be more mature at least.

Hail those who respect.

Hmmm.. touchy, irrational, terrible spelling.. are you on your period?

My last reply clarified the meaning of the first, while insulting you.  A twofer.

Argentinian hostility towards and gross generalisations about the English are understandable given how soundly our tiny force kicked Argentinian ass over the 'Halvinas'.  I'm sure you'll collectively get over it in a generation or two.

Sometimes my sense of humour is offensive to humourless and oversensitive dimwits, but i'm really ok with that.

Have you considered the possibility that some people completely understand your attempts at humor but just don't find them funny at all? You don't have to be humorless, oversensitive, or a dimwit to find something meant as a joke to be offense.

There's a difference between not recognizing an attempt at humor and not thinking an attempt at humor is in good taste or funny.

I thought it was humorous. It is so absurdly false one couldn't take it any other way. " Almost like real people", that's the kicker. Now could we return to the original subject. I would enter some of Yifan's games to discuss but haven't figured out how. I had to laugh when I saw that picture on Wiki of her with pink hair clips. Talk about a wolf in sheeps clothing she could make a mint hustling chess players. "Hey buddy, Wanta play my little sister for $20".   8-)
