1800s(USCF) Noob or strong?

I am 1839 U.S.C.F. but people don't believe it because my blitz and bullet ratings on here are really low and I do play a lot so they are fairly established. I think my case shows clearly that blitz and bullet, whether online or OTB, are different from standard chess (and by standard I don't mean 15min chess, I mean 90+ minutes).

If anyone needs further proof, I have three very good friends from chess tournaments. One is around 2000 bullet on here and 1900 blitz but is only 1700 U.S.C.F. and has never broken 1800. Another is around 1200 bullet on here and 1400 blitz and is almost 1900 U.S.C.F. In addition, my third friend is around 1200 blitz and bullet on here and 1600-1700 U.S.C.F. They all play in the same tournament circuit (Maryland/DC chess metro area, tournaments in DC and Baltimore) and it is clearly not a case of rating inflation, as the open tournaments here are very large and strong.

As an 1800 myself, I've said this before: I don't know what I'm doing much better than I did when I was 1200; I just hide it a lot better :P

You are probably blundering a lot less than when you were 1200 . That makes a big difference .

Where is that von brown fella ?

Von gone.  All hail the mods.  Not sure why his account is still there, but at least he's not here talking nonsense.

Sadly true.  I saw some of those threads; good stuff.  Good to see you keeping the trolls out of them where you could.

Is he the same Buster-McCracken? Or that CanadianExpert that trolled and bragged about ratings?!

I read somewhere that it doesn't ever seem like you are getting better at chess, but somehow your opponents seem to make more mistakes.  There seems to be some truth in this, even at my level.

Correct.

1800 USCF is the top 10% of rated chess players I'd call that pretty strong. As the first poster said, that'd be indistinguishable from a master to 99% of the people who are casual unrated chess plyers.

You haven't met the folks in my neighborhood. Sometimes it is impossible not to antagonize.
