2000 Rated Opponent Lost The Resign Button…

Hey all, been hovering around the 2100 mark for a few days now, but this game made me chuckle. My opponent was unfortunate enough to get his rook trapped by overreacting to a simple threat, and failed to get any compensation for it. Surprisingly, and despite a pretty clean simplification and conversion from me, it took him a further 27 moves to find the resign button…

Still, was a pretty nice demonstration of how to simplify positions when your opponent blunders in the opening but still has a lot of material left. I utilised pins, and eventually sacrificed my rook for a bishop to completely seal the deal. Instructive game for beginners / early intermediates, so wanted to share.

Nice game! Very instructive as you said for intermediates. When I was a little lower than I am at right now (1300-1400), I would overpanick when I was up some material, scared of any little counterattacks my opponent would create, and scared at every move to make a blunder that would destroy all my advantage. So yeah, just remember that when you're up material, just trade pieces and it should go ok.

Once again, thanks for sharing !

Unfortunately no ponziani today 🥲

It just goes to show that I'm below intermediate because I'd have never pushed f4. White King looks so totally exposed - I'd be terrified! But I sure like the 'three white pawns in center' look!

And now I'll finish watching your game! Your games are always interesting, Adam! Thank you!

Alas, not all games can be the ponziani! My opponent was very inconsiderate by not playing into it fr.

Ah, f4 is just theory, but glad you enjoyed it! If you’re looking for takeaways, look at how the pin on the queen helped me simplify, and how the pin on the rook helped me do the same: clever players will try to keep pieces on the board when they’re down material to maximise their chances of counterplay. And even look at sacrificing the exchange at the end - sometimes it’s more valuable to simply leave your opponent with not enough pieces to manage in the endgame (note - sacrificing material in this manner is much more advisable in endgames!!).

i dont think this game was very instructive. some very bad positional moves. you also trapped your knight for no reason.

Forgive me if I don’t take lectures from someone who joined a week ago and somehow already has a 2300 bullet rating… interesting.

Your point completely demonstrates your lack of understanding of chess, which I hope a moderator sees. My knight was at no point trapped. I chose to trade my rook for the bishop as it made the endgame easier, and it is in fact the engine’s top choice. I played this game at ~92% accuracy, which is perfectly acceptable to me. The two moves the engine didn’t bless were both prior to my opponent getting his rook trapped. The opening is not super instructive, but the conversion of material most certainly is.

Very funny, you accuse me of being an alt, chomper accuses me of being your alt, I can never win, can I?

Eyy nice to know I live rent free in chomper’s head… he still won’t play me in an otb setting…. Crazy.

i personally find it interesting that your rapid rating is 800 points higher than your bullet

I don't. He has played over 800 games in rapid and 6 in bullet over the last year. Please stay on the topic, or if you wanna troll, do it somewhere else

That’d be ‘cos I don’t play bullet. And on the rare occasion I do, it’s normally because I’m drunk with my mate Xav and he accidentally sends me a rated challenge, so I have to play a few games drunk to get it back 👍 should answer your question happy.png

Thanks, mate. I shouldn’t get drawn into the rage bait, should I? Keeping my content instructive and funny (occasionally!), not toxic.
