2000 rated players are....

... too stupid to be criminals. You see, at 2000 rating, it means you have invested quite some time into chess. Yet you are only 2000. If you are 2000, you can either be stupid or smart. If you are stupid, then you have likely spent all your time studying chess (because you are stupid, so you have to study more). If you are smart, but stuck at 2000, then are you really smart? Therefore you must be stupid. And if you are stupid, then we have looped back to the first part of our argument.

If you're not 2000, don't worry. You might still go outside, so you should still have opportunities.

I could say then that you are stupid for investing time into your hobby and/or your job. I'm planning to make money by chess coaching. You think it's stupid to invest time and work in your job. Then go to the lottery and be a beggar.

I went from 1000 to 2000 in 6 months, with very little studying : I have not learnt opening theory, rarely studied tactics, never studied endgames. I played a lot so I learnt from my mistakes, but other than that, nothing, nothing except spamming games over and over. So that probably means I am “smart at chess”, right ? That means that if I study hard, I’ll go beyond 2000. Maybe I can become a NM if I study for 10 years from now on. But I am “smart” enough to understand that it's not what I want and that I prefer to focus on other things, that might be more beneficial to me in the future.

Being stupid sometimes is an advantage. But insulting is not good.

They still can put a couple of kings in their pockets and come to a proper shootout:

In conformance with the new politically correct times (think of the book 1984 by George Orwell) the word stupid is just so offensive. How about a new politically correct term like COMPRESSIONALLY CHALLENGED?

#10 No offense bro but I'm not gonna change my plan because of some random online stranger, I know what I'm doing. See, you may be a little too weak for doing stuff like that, but I'm being very serious in chess, and I'm going to get a FIDE title.
Avatar of chesssblackbelt

Ay we have the same goal, fet. Get a title then coach

I almost gave up a couple times because progress is slow but it's looking pretty likely now. Just keep at it

Avatar of cheeseblackbelt

Nooooo, who's going to drive my trains when I go to England ?

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

Bruh I don't mean coaching as a career lmao I don't wanna be homeless

it's not about being serious, it's like saying "I REALLY want to become a taxi"

you won't manage to make a lot of money through coaching, by the time you get a title, you'll be almost an adult

instead, focus on good education and get a good job, that's much better

i don't say trust me as a full stranger, if you don't, then that's fine, but research properly about this topic before being committed

I would tend to agree with Volt, chess coaching as a full time job is difficult and risky for a little lower than average reward. I dont say you can't do it, but that there's a reason that every titled player doesn't do coaching and prefer so focus on “normal” jobs, or do not do it full time

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

Coaching is a part time thing for sure

Yall realise that you can coach without a title. Thats what I do and others. Parents that don't know anything abt chess don't rlly know abt the title system nor would they probably care.

I know but it's gonna be for peanuts. If you tell the parents that you're a “chess master” they're gonna throw money at you
