2025 FIDE Women's World Championship: Official Discussion Thread

My own comment on the news page: Ju seems to have shown another level, yet Tan is good at fighting against someone like that when she freely uses her natural force with a modest expectation. This means she‘s mentally equipped with the warrior spirit to fight 2600-levelers. However,Ju’s maturity may cancel that out. I‘d say 60 percent for Ju and 40 percent for Tan,but we’ll have to wait and see!

Tan could sacrifice her knight and fork the knight and bishop after the c6 knight takes the sacrificed knight, which could have down side of losing a pawn if Ju takes the forking pawn and either the f3 knight or queen could take the bishop

Well,so happens me to be watching right now. Your basic idea is correct, but let‘s not forget about that Nd5 is hanging after Nxe5. So black will take on c3 first, and white will take c6 with check with the bishop. After black takes,I strongly recommend checking out the full engine line where white takes c3 with the d-pawn. It’s really amazing with all the best moves and only moves.

38... Rb3 would've been a quite natural move, I'm not sure what was Ju's idea with 38... Rf5 instead, perhaps she wanted to prevent a free 39. d5 by Tan however it seems that ultimately it helped Tan activate her king. Then 40... Ke8 and there was 41. Ke4 winning the hill. I couldn't watch today but would bet on time playing a considerable role due to all these moves near TC making it change so fast.
