Just like OTB chess it's up to the player to keep track and claim 3 fold repetition draws. At least it's based on the position of the board plus it has to be the same player that has to move... but does not require the 3 fold repetition to be done back-to-back.
3 fold repetition should have a warning in Blitz

Also agree. Online is not an exact equivalent of OTB, cheesing repetition in some non-obvious situations (especially for beginners) feels like bad sportsmanship and online chess should include a counter or other indicator before triggering a draw state for a game that is headed towards a win.

You don't get warnings in OTB about potential drawing conditions and the site won't add information like that either.

It's actually a good change in ONLINE chess. In OTB, a player must claim it. GOOD proposal.
It used to require claiming for Live chess and still is for Daily. However, timing in Live became an issue and unlike OTB, you can't stop the clocks. A member has to recognized they are heading into a potential triple repetition and deviate if they think there's something better than a draw.
This issue has happened to me a few times now and it's really frustrating. When time crunch is on the line and you're in an end game position. The position repeats itself a couple times and you finally decide you want to revert back to the other position. And it draws without warning. Anyone else feel me on this one?
