Using coordinates to play

I would like to develop my understanding of position, and I think inputting coordinates (e.g., Bg5, Qxf4, etc.) would help with this. Is there a setting that controls whether play is conducted by dragging pieces on the board or by inputting coordinates, and if so, where may I find it to change it? Thanks!
