4 Player Chess

Been playing the 4 player chess beta.  https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess

I really hope they keep this game available.  I'm sure it's totally imbalanced and two players teaming up can easily ruin it but still, this has real potential.  You could even have 2 v 2 with this same format.

Share your thoughts and feedback about it.

If there's agreed collusion then yes, that would definitely ruin it, but most of the wins and losses are  going to be largely influenced by double-attacks, double-checks, etc., regardless.

I've found the best strategy is to work on your own development, avoid trading early on (or you'll simply have fewer pieces to defend against those who didn't trade off), and be opportunistic. Wait for someone to make a check or some threat, then make a second, lesser threat, which they will be forced to ignore. If you have a good position and castle early, most people won't even bother to attack you to begin with.

I'm not sure where we report glitches, but the main one I want fixed is how repeatedly clicking the "resign" button will fill up the screen with "X has resigned", and if you don't have a fast computer, the game will freeze and you can no longer play. It's the online equivalent of throwing the pieces all over the floor when you start to lose.

I haven't done it with 4 individual players, but the high school team I coached loved Bughouse, two teams of two, and I loved to see them play it because they had to identify where an additional piece could help or harm them and that developed a better understanding of how the pieces interact.

There are a lot of glitches sometimes I can't move my pieces or my pawns or it highlightes the players names

Right now the servers are really struggling. Several disconnections meh.png

Also I (1296) was pared with 1600s in the last game (?). Probably because of server problems.

Very amusing game grin.png tho.

It's not that uncommon with uneven pairings. One recent example:

Higher rated players often need longer times to find pairings. I'm guessing the server gets desperate if the waiting time gets too long and fix a pairing with whatever is available.

I think the most skewed pairings I've seen is a 1880 player (at the time rated #2) with two 1100 players and one 1200 player.

Is there a way to play this with friends?

Martin0

There is no way to play with friends right now. It is a feature that should come eventually (I'm guessing it will be somewhat soon, but that is just a guess).

Server lag was very severe this evening. I hope it gets worked out soon because this game is WAY better than regular chess for me. A whole new set of dynamics. What a great game!

null4-player-chess;

Quite often unfairly player gets the option to "Claim Win" although is not justified why. I had one point less then him and had a lot more pieces then him. Why do you give this option to claim win when I could have won easily. Thanks. püs. It also happened once the other way around when I was almost losing then I saw the "claim win" button so I clicked it lol, chicky me. Would be great to remove that option.

LTwo

I've never seen that button for some reason

If you surrender in that scenario, even if your opponent gains 20, you would still be with the most points

So "claim win" (instead of resign) its just there to point out to the player that they have effectively already won

Edit: or at least that is my understanding

You are correct!

@Hemomancer & Martin0

It occurs also when there is only one point difference, not >+20. I even posted a picture. Why not let us finish our game, time is very limited anyway.

Martin0

Your opponent was ahead by 21 points. When he pressed claim win you were awarded with 20 points and the game ended. Claim win is basically the same as resignation, you give up your king which is worth 20 points and end the game.

martonflorian

 Nothing like that happened.  he had 42 pts then made a check mate to someone else, he got 20 pts then game over. Also today I had the claim win button but nothing happened when I clicked on it. Whatever, I find it useless
